Kirstin writes for the Benicia Herald and published her first novel, First Impressions, a YA retelling of Pride and Prejudice. Check out her novel and some of her articles on her author website.
About Andreas Kaiser: Andreas sometimes joins me in tutoring students. He graduated from U.C. Berkeley in Mechanical Engineering and obtained a teaching credential in Mathematics and Industrial Technology from St. Mary's. He taught 14 years at Pittsburg High School, with courses in math and computers. He has been teaching technology at Benicia High School since 2014. Please see Andreas' credentials & qualifications.
The Method and Philosophy: The goal of Benicia Tutoring Center is for students to become confident learners, so that the concepts behind the material become evident. If conventional methods have not been successful, a new approach is necessary. For example, struggling readers benefit when structural rules and concepts are made clear to them. Math students may need time understanding overall concepts rather than blindly following formulas. Andreas and I evaluate each student and create a learning plan aimed at meeting each student's need. When appropriate, we equip students with skills through homework help, thus targeting areas of need while ensuring that students do not fall behind and farther into frustration and worry. Please see tutoring strategies for more information.
